In life, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day struggles and routines. Yet, God has a unique way of planting a vision in our hearts—one that stretches beyond the immediate moment and takes us into a future of hope and purpose. Divine vision goes beyond just our current circumstances, revealing God’s grand plan for our lives, families, and communities.

How God Plants a Vision and Clarifies His Plans for Us

God’s vision for us is not always obvious at first. Often, it’s planted in our hearts in subtle ways—through desires, passions, and burdens that begin to stir within us. Over time, He clarifies that vision, helping us see how it connects to His greater plan. This vision is not just about us—it’s about His Kingdom and our role in advancing it. It’s a call to step into something bigger than ourselves and trust that God will guide us step by step.

As we journey with God, we begin to see how the vision unfolds in ways that we could never have imagined. In the beginning, it might look like a seed of an idea or an invitation to something we are unsure about. But over time, as we seek God’s direction and stay faithful, He brings more clarity and understanding, revealing how His plans are bigger than anything we could have dreamed on our own.

The Difference Between Human Ambition and Divine Vision

There’s a clear distinction between human ambition and divine vision. Human ambition is driven by self-interest and the desire for success, often rooted in personal gain or recognition. While ambition can be a powerful motivator, it is often limited to what we can achieve through our own efforts.

On the other hand, divine vision is God-centered. It aligns with His purposes and calls us to walk in obedience and faith. Divine vision isn’t about building our own kingdom—it’s about expanding God’s Kingdom. It requires us to set aside our own plans and trust that God’s vision is always greater than anything we could achieve through our own strength.

Divine vision also often includes aspects of sacrifice and servanthood, where we are called to put others first, to serve with humility, and to walk in integrity. It’s a vision that extends beyond our lifetimes, impacting generations to come. While human ambition focuses on the now, divine vision teaches us to see beyond the present and into eternity.

Staying Faithful to the Vision Amidst Uncertainty

One of the greatest challenges of pursuing a divine vision is the uncertainty that comes with it. When God calls us to something big, it’s easy to doubt, especially when we can’t see the full picture. In these moments, it’s essential to remember that faith isn’t about knowing all the details—it’s about trusting that God is faithful to finish what He started.

In times of uncertainty, we must learn to stay faithful to the vision God has given us, even when it feels unclear or when obstacles arise. It’s easy to get discouraged, especially when we face setbacks or when others around us don’t understand the journey we are on. But God’s Word reminds us to be steadfast and to trust in His timing. As we stay focused on Him and His vision for our lives, He will provide the clarity and the strength we need to move forward.

The journey of faith often involves waiting and trusting that, although we don’t always understand what’s ahead, God is working all things together for our good. Faithful obedience is the key to seeing the vision come to life.

Every great journey begins with a season of preparation. Before stepping into the fullness of your calling, there’s a process—a time of shaping, refining, and molding. Often, it’s not glamorous. It’s messy, humbling, and sometimes uncomfortable. But this season is where the foundation of your purpose is laid.

In this second installment of the Shift Into Legacy series, we’re diving into The Preparation: Embracing the Process of Becoming. If you’ve ever felt like you’re stuck in the in-between, know that you’re not alone—and this is where God is doing His most profound work in you.

1. The Wilderness is Necessary

Think about the great figures in the Bible. Moses spent 40 years in the desert before leading the Israelites out of Egypt. David tended sheep in obscurity long before he wore the crown of Israel. Even Jesus Himself spent 40 days in the wilderness before starting His public ministry.

The wilderness isn’t punishment—it’s preparation. It’s where God refines your character, teaches you to rely on Him, and equips you for the challenges ahead.

In my own life, I’ve had wilderness seasons where I felt hidden and unproductive. But looking back, I see how God was teaching me lessons I’d need for the road ahead. He was building resilience, deepening my faith, and sharpening my gifts.

If you’re in a wilderness season, take heart. God isn’t wasting this time. He’s shaping you into the person you need to be to fulfill your calling.

2. Trusting God’s Timing

Preparation requires patience, and patience isn’t always easy. When you feel ready to leap forward but God says, “Not yet,” it can be frustrating.

But here’s what I’ve learned: God’s timing is perfect. Rushing ahead of Him often leads to unnecessary pain and setbacks. Think of Joseph in the Bible. After receiving a dream of greatness, he endured betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment before stepping into his destiny as a leader in Egypt.

What sustained Joseph through those years? His trust in God. He believed that the same God who gave him the dream would bring it to fulfillment at the right time.

If you’re tempted to rush the process, remember this: Waiting on God is never wasted time. Every delay has a purpose.

3. Preparation is Often Hidden Work

In our social media-driven world, it’s easy to feel like every step of your journey should be visible and celebrated. But some of the most important work happens in the hidden places—behind the scenes where no one is watching.

For me, this looked like writing blog posts that only a handful of people read, leading small Bible study groups, and counseling friends one-on-one long before I ever launched a public platform.

It’s in the hidden work that God hones your skills and purifies your motives. Are you willing to do the work, even if no one is clapping for you yet?

4. The Tools for Your Journey

Every season of preparation equips you with tools for the journey ahead. These tools often come in the form of skills, experiences, relationships, or even hardships.

For example, the years I spent navigating motherhood while balancing a career taught me time management and empathy—two skills I now use in ministry and coaching. The struggles I faced gave me a well of wisdom to draw from when helping others.

What tools are you picking up in this season? It could be the patience learned from dealing with a difficult situation, the strength built in enduring challenges, or the wisdom gained from seeking God’s guidance.

5. Embracing the Process

Preparation is about more than just enduring the process—it’s about embracing it. This doesn’t mean you have to love every hard moment, but it does mean recognizing the value in it.

In Romans 5:3-4, Paul reminds us:
“We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

Each step of the process is producing something in you that’s necessary for your purpose.

So, if you’re in a season of preparation, take heart. God is with you, working in you and through you. And when the time comes, you’ll be ready—not because you rushed ahead, but because you allowed Him to prepare you.

God doesn’t always call us in dramatic ways or on grand stages. Sometimes, His invitation to a legacy begins with a simple word, a quiet whisper, or an everyday encounter. The challenge lies in recognizing these moments and being open to the extraordinary things God wants to accomplish through them.

In this post, we will explore how ordinary moments can reveal extraordinary callings, how to recognize God’s voice when He speaks, and I will share a personal story about how one phone call marked the start of my own legacy journey.

How Ordinary Moments Can Reveal Extraordinary Callings

In a fast-paced world filled with distractions, it can be easy to overlook the small, seemingly insignificant moments in our daily lives. Yet, it is often within the ordinary that God speaks most clearly. These moments might seem mundane or routine, but when we look closely, they may be the very moments that point to the legacy God wants us to build.

Consider Moses, who was tending sheep in the wilderness when he encountered the burning bush. His life seemed ordinary, but that moment marked the beginning of a legacy that would change the course of history (Exodus 3). Similarly, in the New Testament, Jesus called His first disciples while they were going about their everyday jobs as fishermen. He didn’t wait for them to be in a temple or a place of prominence; He met them right where they were.

Scripture Reference: 1 Samuel 16:7 – “But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.'”

These stories remind us that God does not see things the way we do. What may seem like an ordinary task or day-to-day routine to us might be the very moment God is calling us to something extraordinary. Legacy is built in these small, faithful moments of obedience to His call.

Recognizing God’s Voice and Responding to His Call

God speaks in many ways—through scripture, through prayer, through people, and sometimes in the quiet of our hearts. But to recognize His voice, we need to develop a heart of discernment.

The challenge is that we often get caught up in the noise of our daily lives, making it difficult to hear God’s invitation. He may not always call us with a loud, booming voice or in a way that fits our expectations. Sometimes, He calls us in subtle ways—through a desire, a burden, or a situation that tugs at our heart.

In 1 Kings 19:11-12, we see how Elijah encountered God not in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire, but in a gentle whisper. Recognizing God’s voice often requires stillness, patience, and a willingness to listen.

To respond to His call, we must have the courage to say “yes” even when the path is unclear. It’s in these moments of obedience, no matter how small, that God builds the foundation for our legacy. When we respond to His invitation, even in the smallest moments, we begin to walk in the purpose He has set before us.

The Transformative Phone Call That Marked the Start of My Legacy Journey

To illustrate this point, I want to share a personal story—a phone call that transformed the course of my life and led me to step into the legacy journey I’m on today.

It was a seemingly ordinary afternoon, much like any other. I was going about my day when I received a call from a mentor. What followed was a conversation that, at the time, felt casual. But in hindsight, I now see how it was a divine moment. My mentor shared encouragement, wisdom, and insight that revealed a much bigger picture than I had ever imagined for my life.

That call wasn’t just about advice or mentorship—it was a confirmation of a calling I had been wrestling with. It was a nudge from God, an invitation to step into a purpose I had been avoiding. At that moment, I realized that the legacy I was meant to build wasn’t something to wait for in the future—it was something I was already walking into, one step at a time.

That phone call wasn’t loud or dramatic, but it shifted my perspective. It made me realize that every ordinary moment is a potential invitation to embrace the extraordinary. The legacy God was calling me to build didn’t require grand gestures or perfect timing; it required faithfulness in responding to His call, even in the smallest moments.
